“Obsessive, tinkering, curious, perfectionist”
- Just a few words that would describe Six String Garage
Hi, I'm Matt.
Music has been a huge part of my life for as long as I can remember.
Long before I picked up a guitar, I was a drummer. I spent years playing gigs, rehearsing, recording and chasing the next opportunity to make music. It taught me something I've never forgotten: when an instrument feels right, it inspires you to play more, practise more and enjoy every minute of it.
Then I discovered the guitar.
Like many players, what started with buying one guitar soon turned into buying another... and another. Before long I was spending as much time improving them as I was playing them. Every guitar that came through my hands was carefully set up to suit the way I played. Action, intonation, electronics, pickups, frets – I became fascinated by how small changes could completely transform an instrument.
Friends started asking if I'd work on their guitars too, and without really planning it, Six String Garage was born.
Today, I offer everything from professional setups and restringing to pickup installations, rewiring, fret dressing, refrets and general guitar repairs. Whether it's a treasured vintage instrument, a well-loved workhorse or your very first guitar, every instrument is treated with the same care, patience and attention to detail that I'd expect for my own.
For many people, working on a guitar can feel intimidating. YouTube makes everything look easy, but it only takes one slipped screwdriver or one badly adjusted truss rod to turn a simple job into an expensive repair. That's where I come in.
My aim is simple: to make your guitar feel like the best version of itself.
But Six String Garage is about more than repairs.
I wanted to create the sort of place I'd enjoy visiting myself. Somewhere welcoming, relaxed and completely free of ego. A place where experienced musicians and complete beginners are equally at home. Somewhere you can ask questions without feeling silly, talk about music, compare guitars, discover something different, or simply have a chat over a coffee.
Because that's what music has always been about for me: people.
Whether you're looking for your next guitar, want to breathe new life into an old favourite, need a repair, or simply fancy talking about gear, you'll always receive honest advice, quality workmanship and a warm welcome.
So if you're looking for someone who'll care about your instrument as much as you do, I'd love to meet you.
Bring your guitar in, I'll put the kettle on, and let's make it play the way it was always meant to.
I look forward to meeting you.
Matt
